In the Winter of 2016, the China Ocean Acoustics Symposium (COA2016) will welcome leading scholars, experts and students in the beautiful silver-coated Harbin, Chinese Ice City, famous for her Ice Lamp and Snow Sculpture. This unique event, sponsored by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society, will create in China an exchange platform for universities, research institutions and industries worldwide in one of the key fields of ocean science and engineering.
In these times where China is diving into the deep blue sea the aim is to create opportunities for high-level joint research in specific areas of common interest by facilitating the sharing of research achievements, experiences and new ideas on hot topics. By actively participating in the symposium, postgraduate students and young researchers will have the opportunity to challenge their ideas, new approaches and developments of techniques and technologies. The organizers will invite widely recognized professors and experts to give tutorials and talks on underwater acoustics fundamentals, new approaches and cutting-edge applications. Participants will receive details of the proceedings with a summary of all of the contributions, and IEEE Xplore will publish the papers.
An exhibition by Chinese and foreign companies manufacturing state-of-the-art technologies, distributing equipment and providing services for underwater acoustic measurements and surveys will be set up in the venue hall.
The International Collegiate Snow Sculpture Contest (ICSSC) will welcome the participation of COA2016 Chinese and foreign students from 4 to 7 January 2016. According to Guinness World Records, the ICSSC held by HEU since 2009 produces the largest group of snow sculptures in the World and it is the only such contest for college students. By joining the event, COA2016 students will have the opportunity to learn snow sculpture techniques, and have fun during the process whilst experiencing the ice and snow culture of Harbin. Catering and accommodation for four-student teams will be provided by the symposium organizers.
All participants are required to submit an abstract with 300–500 words and a full paper before the respective deadlines.
COA2016 will be held in the Qihang Activity Center, which is located on the HEU campus. This well-equipped facility offers a great atmosphere and environment for international conferences and contests. Lecture halls and meeting rooms with various capacities, and also a Sunshine Hall of 1600 square meters for exhibitions, will be available.
Chinese participants are recommended to obtain accommodate in the International Exchange Center, which is an hotel located on the HEU campus, and just a 5-minute walk from Qihang Activity Center. The hotel has three meeting rooms, 98 guest rooms and a restaurant capacity of 400 persons. Students will be welcomed at the HEU Foreign Expert and International Student Apartment, which has 713 rooms; and a more than sufficient number will be reserved for the week of the symposium. It is suggested that foreign participants may wish to stay in the excellent hotels of Shangri-la Hotel or Sofitel Wanda, which are located in the beautiful city of Harbin.
